Tanzania Women Lawyers Association (TAWLA)

Tanzania Women Lawyers Association (TAWLA) is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) as of 2019 as a result of changes of legal framework where organisations that deal mainly with communities had to comply with The Non-Government Organisation Act, No. 24 of 2002 and its amendments made vide The Written Laws (Miscellaneous Amendments) Act (No.3) of 2019. The organisation was formerly registered in 1990 under societies Act Cap 337 R.E 2002 as a guild to promote and advance legal and constitutional rights of women and children and this still stands to date.

The aims and objectives of the organization are; to advocate for gender equality, promotion of human dignity and gender justice through policy, legal and institutional reforms, community action and media engagement.

Our Current Projects

Promote gender equality outcomes in partners’ just food systems and sustainable livelihood projects. To improve gender equality outcome in We Effect partners’ just food systems and sustainable livelihood projects in Mwanza, Dodoma, Iringa, Njombe, and Kilimanjaro Regions by 2027. We Effect January 2023- December 2027 KEY OBJECTIVE 01: To advance gender equity through programs that promote accountability, progressive laws, transparency, and access to justice at Zonal, National, and international level by 2025 S 05: Designing and implementing programs to promote gender equity and address emerging / cross cutting issues that have an adverse effect on women and children.
Advocating for the adoption and implementation of a national mandatory standard on Front of Pack Warning Label (FOPL) to promote healthy diets in Tanzania.

 

To influence for the development of a national mandatory standard on front-of-pack warning labels to provide clear information for consumers as per the Internationally recommended and Evidence-based best practices. It is designed to contribute to the reduction of the prevalence of poor dietary quality and diet-related diseases by providing clear guidance to consumers on healthier food choices.

Global Health Advocacy Incubator (GHAI) Dec 2023 – May 2025 KEY OBJECTIVE 01: To advance gender equity through programs that promote accountability, progressive laws, transparency, and access to justice at Zonal, National, and international level by 2025 S 04: Regular research and Evidence-based advocacy for legal reforms on laws affecting women and children countrywide and disseminate such reports to relevant Stakeholders.
S 05: Designing and implementing programs to promote gender equity and address emerging / cross cutting issues that have an adverse effect on women and children.

Advancing SRHR for Women of Reproductive Age in Tanzania

 

To advance reproductive health and rights for women of reproductive age in Tanzania. ANNONYMOUS 2023 – 2024 To contribute to creating sensitive and responsive legal environment that protects fundamental rights of women and children and ensure their fully realization.
